HIKING TRAILS
In Idaho Springs, the trail starts with gentle riverside strolls to rugged climbs that test your legs and reward you with sweeping views, hiking here is about more than the destination, it’s about slowing down, breathing deep, and stepping into Colorado’s story. With historic paths, family-friendly loops, and high-country adventures just minutes away, every trail invites you to explore the Rockies at your own pace, in every season.

Clear Creek Greenway
This is a paved trail by the river with beautiful mountain views. It is a perfect trail for a light exercise or stroll and a bike, dog, and kids-friendly trail. Although it is next to the highway, you can still enjoy a pleasant stroll. There are some sculptures and a water wheel to see along the way. You can park at the Clear Creek Ranger District Office for free parking.

Echo Lake
Nestled at the base of the Mount Evans Scenic Byway, Echo Lake is a year-round favorite. In summer, its calm waters and picnic areas make it a perfect family stop, while in winter the frozen lake forms striking ice patterns under crisp alpine skies. The lake doubles as a trailhead into the Mount Evans Wilderness, a popular fishing spot, and a place to stargaze thanks to its dark skies. With a nearby campground, it’s as much a launching point for adventure as it is a destination in itself.
